In clear sighted recognition of Abbe Land’s longtime lead-ership in civil rights, Equality California’s Political Action Comm-ittee (EQCA PAC) has announced it’s endor-sement of Abbe Land for Assembly in AD42, a critical legislative race for the June 6 primary election. EQCA is California’s statewide lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization.

“Taking into account Abbe’s lifetime of dedicated leadership on civil rights issues for the LGBT community and the multitude of endorsements by prominent leaders among the State Legislature’s LGBT Caucus and elsewhere, it became clear that Abbe was our choice. She is a leader,”

said Geoffrey Kors, EQCA Executive Director.

“I am delighted and honored to have the support of EQCA. I am committed to equal rights for all Californians and I look forward to working with EQCA to insure that we move forward on critical issues of dignity,”

said Abbe. With it’s endorsement of Abbe Land, EQCA joins a long list of key progressive organizations and individuals backing Abbe. And it is abundantly clear that they want Abbe’s authenticity, passion, energy and focus in the State Assembly.

LA Councilmember Wendy Greuel and former Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg endorse Abbe Land

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Two prominent Democratic leaders with a strong base of support in the San Fernando Valley endorsed Abbe Land as the democratic candidate for the California State Assembly.

Abbe Land endorsed by Wendy Greuel
Wendy Greuel (left, with Abbe Land) is President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council. 18% of the voters in AD42 live in Councilmember Greuel’s 2nd Council District.

Councilmember Greuel made the following statement:

“Like me, Abbe Land has a commitment to empowering neighborhoods to improve the quality of life. Abbe Land brings people together to find practical solutions to common problems. I trust Abbe Land to be a partner for our community in working to reduce gridlock on the 101 and 405 and to build mass transit. I am pleased to support Abbe Land for State Assembly.”

Bob Hertzberg represented the San Fernando Valley in the State Assembly from 1996 to 2002 serving as Speaker of the California State Assembly from 2000 to 2002. Hertzberg ran a very strong campaign for Mayor of Los Angeles in 2005. Hertzberg stated:

“Abbe Land is a person of unquestioned integrity, passionate commitment and boundless energy. Her work, quite literally, changes lives. As an Assemblymember and Speaker, I learned very quickly what it takes to be an effective legislator. Most importantly it takes a willingness to put problem solving ahead of your personal political agenda. That’s the kind of leader Abbe Land is, and that’s why I’m supporting her for Assembly.”

Abbe Land responded. “Wendy Greuel and Bob Hertzberg are models of effective leadership. They listen, they build consensus and they persist until a solution is achieved. I am quite honored to have their support.”

Abbe Land is a candidate in the June 6th, 2006 Democratic Primary election for California Assembly District 42.

Campaign Kickoff Huge Success

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

Abbe Land for California State Assembly kickoff party
The Abbe Land for Assembly campaign kicked off yesterday amid great celebration and and a fervent call to action. The campaign headquarters was overflowing with supporters and volunteers, some of whom kept calling voters right through the noise of the event.
Abbe was joined by L.A. City Councilmember Jan Perry, Beverly Hills Councilmember Linda Briskman and West Hollywood Councilmembers Jeffrey Prang and John Heilman. Each of them took turns in praising Abbe’s experience and consensus building skills and describing how they uniquely qualify her for the job in Sacramento. And each exhorted Abbe’s supporters to step up their campaign effort  now like never before. Abbe expressed her deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received. She then turned everyone’s full attention to the task at hand. “The time is now,”she said. “We will win on June 6 by reaching out to enough voters now with our positive message of progressive Democratic leadership in the State Assembly.”

She then pointed out that there was no substitute for one-on-one, direct communication with voters either by calling or going door-to-door and galvanized everyone into action. Folks signed up for the Saturday, April 15th walk and weekday evening phonebanking to help support her Democratic candidacy.

Abbe Land continues out-raising her opponent in AD42 race

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Abbe Land continues out-raising her opponent in AD42 race as she opens a $64,000 cash-on-hand advantage.

Abbe Land has, for the fourth straight reporting period, out-raised her opponent, former L.A. City Councilman Mike Feuer. More importantly, she has opened up a $64,000 cash-on-hand advantage over Feuer.

These are the numbers from the state financial filing reports which were due on 3/22, covering the period from 1/106 through 3/17/06:

Candidate        Raised          Cash on hand

Abbe Land       $101,209     $485,637

Mike Feuer       $ 46,239      $421,784

Land’s consultant, Parke Skelton, noted, “At the beginning of the race there were some question about whether Abbe could keep pace with a candidate who had served on the L.A. City Council for eight years. Well she has. It is a testament to the extremely broad base of support surrounding Abbe and her willingness to work hard and stay focused.”

Abbe Land Leads CA Dem Party Voting in 42nd AD

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

Abbe Land for California State Assembly with senior voters
In a vote of delegates from the 42nd Assembly District to the State Central Committee of the California Democratic Party, Abbe Land beat her main opponent by 50% to 30%. The 20% margin is a clear demonstration of Abbe’s strength among the local Democratic Party members.

This comes on top of the endorsement this past week of the Stonewall Democratic Club of Abbe’s candidacy. Stonewall is the largest and most respected Democratic organization in the district. Immediately before that the Progressive Democrats of Los Angeles also endorsed Abbe. PDLA is a cutting edge group of activists committed to core Democratic values.

All in all, a terrific week for Abbe Land’s campaign in the 42nd Assembly District. Go to www.abbeland.com for more info on Abbe.

Join us next Sunday, April 9th, 1:30 p.m., as we celebrate the kickoff of Abbe Land’s field campaign.
